Coming very soon to a particular venue in Sheffield – Funky Town, upstairs in the old West Street Alehouse – is Hidden Junction a weekly thrusady night extravanganza, but not too extravagant, from Rite Trax. This is the outfit with whom I regularly perform. I will undoubtedly be providing visuals for this event as with the others, in addition I will be DJing a regular set – Around the world in 80 raves. This will provide something either in keping with the night or a useful contrast. The difference with these sets will be that they will involve either a different genre or sub-genre of music or a different point of origin.
The opening few sets are likely to include:
- broken beat
- balkan mashups
- italo house
- italo disco
- future kizomba
- zouk bass
- zouk love
- retro zouk – classics
- japanese lounge – shibuya kei
- canadian drum and bass
- french triphop
- african deep house
Let me know of any suggestions you have.
The whole Rite Trax experience is something that is growing. It may have a core of banging club nights but it is much more and will grow those extra features over the coming weeks, months and more. It may be useful for those with artworks, hand crafted materials, music and all such to get in touch with them.
RiteTrax CIC is a newly formed social enterprise based in Sheffield, aimed at providng a platform for underground creative culture.
small business owner creating content, graphics, marketing, also dj, vj and more
There is nothing like the night and all of the joys you can find there. I miss my clubbing days. I miss djing and vjing, creating for events, entertaining even a small crowd. I have managed to play at quite a few clubs in and around Sheffield, also enjoying the events as an attendee. I had great fun going out to such and beyond to festivals and free parties with my daughters – yes! strange I know, but still. Even though I am in my 60s now I still love this music. It may seem odd for someone such as myself to still have a love of 2 step garage, drum and bass, dubstep, future bass, drumstep, trap, glitch and more but there you have it.
There is nothing quite like the right music fitting how mood and emotion is running, in the right place – perhaps a suitably aged and distressed area at the back of a personable pub.
A new mix – deeper, darker, hints of vocal styles, always chilled and thoughtful.
here on an intelligent tip – a new discovery for me – Dub Phizix, providing a few tracks
I really do have a serious taste these days for the atmospheric, the intelligent, the emotive. There is music within each of these mixes and the mixes as a whole, of course, that is truly emotive, wistful and more. I still love my Bukem, Photek, Hospital records and more, the developments recently are interesting.
biome – a producer from Manchester – interesting …
a mix with a few mentions of biome
It’s been a fair old while since we collaborated with another night (last one was with the mighty First Word Records back in March) so we’ve hencewise decided to hook up with not only another night but another night from ANOTHER CITY.
THAT CITY IS LONDON (UK).
That’s right, the sounds of London Bass Club (WEST LONDON BASS CLUB and East London Bass Club) shall be procreating with the sounds of Cool Beans on the 30th August 2013 at everyone’s favourite procreation den – The Harley. Mmmmm, procreation den.
Also, have you seen you can tag stuff in event info now – how exciting/boring! (cross one off depending on your personality)
Yes, travelling all the way up from the Big Smoke to help us put on a 10 hour party is London Bass Club. What’s that? You want some live music? Hold your god damn ponies we’re getting to that……..right NOW!
THE JB CONSPIRACY
Finally getting those scamps in The JB Conspiracy up for a show! Long, long time fans of this band, the play a ska/reggae/punk crossover but with a certain je-ne-sais-quoi that leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling in your stomach. Their releases have been nothing short of fantastic – songwriting, musical technicality, production levels, they have it all. Good times guaranteed!
CHINA SHOP BULL
Ska-punk-reggae ravers China Shop Bull shall be main support on this fine evening. Having hit up a ton of festivals over the summer, these lads shall be bang on point for a storming set! Check out some of their recent videos for audio/visual stimulation!
POPES OF CHILLITOWN
London crew Popes of Chillitown first hit the Cool Beans stage at Tramlines 2012 and drove the upstairs room at the Great Gatsby into an absolute frenzy. The show included a circle pit and a lot of sweating – delighted to have these boys back in town!
THE MEGA SQUAD
As seen at Tramlines 2013, Sheffield favourites The Mega Squad shall be opening up the proceedings with their delectable brand of funk & hip-hop.
+ DJS Arnivore / Jimmy The Gent / The Evil Uncles
Expect a supreme mashup of tropical beats and exotic treats – ska / rave / reggae / rock / bass / hiphop / reggae / breaks / punk / balkan bangers / moomBRAton / frosted folkstep / panpipe remixes / hardcore fawnography / etc
Cost to enter such a marvellous place shall be £4, doors at 6PM and we’ll most likely reduce entrance fee after the bands.
IT’S GONNA BE ONE HELL OF A RIDE – STRAP IN TIGHT!
Lots of love,
