Coming very soon to a particular venue in Sheffield – Funky Town, upstairs in the old West Street Alehouse – is Hidden Junction a weekly thrusady night extravanganza, but not too extravagant, from Rite Trax. This is the outfit with whom I regularly perform. I will undoubtedly be providing visuals for this event as with the others, in addition I will be DJing a regular set – Around the world in 80 raves. This will provide something either in keping with the night or a useful contrast. The difference with these sets will be that they will involve either a different genre or sub-genre of music or a different point of origin.
The opening few sets are likely to include:
- broken beat
- balkan mashups
- italo house
- italo disco
- future kizomba
- zouk bass
- zouk love
- retro zouk – classics
- japanese lounge – shibuya kei
- canadian drum and bass
- french triphop
- african deep house
Let me know of any suggestions you have.
The whole Rite Trax experience is something that is growing. It may have a core of banging club nights but it is much more and will grow those extra features over the coming weeks, months and more. It may be useful for those with artworks, hand crafted materials, music and all such to get in touch with them.

You chance upon one thing, which leads you to another, which takes you on somewhere else and the journey is …
I chanced upon this website offering up radio station listening to stattions all over the world. I found a particular station, it seems based in northern Brazil in Jericoacoara. I thought that I would explore via google maps and found what is a most remarkable place. With the most incredible beaches in front of me, then shops, streets and more reminding me of my time in Africa with trip hop playing in the background … I was transported to feelings of real comfort and joy in places such as the Harley in Sheffield, back some years ago, along with the joys of discovering a whole variety of new, gentle, thoughtful and imaginative sounds and beats. There was the subdued lighting and relaxed joy of those venues, good drinks, sweet beats. Then in front of me were the memories of times in Lesotho, gentler times, good people, warmth, physical and emotional (even though there was a war going on).

I have even got to the point of looking for work in the place. Somewhow I think I might enjoy the place. For me, as well, the music on the radio station fits in a peculiar way. It is not the local music – forro! Nor is it particularly south american, but the trip hop being played had all of the gentle imagination and subtle emotion that goes with a very distinct, warm sunset which is itself bracketed by a day of heat, gentle walking, getting on with things, and then a night of drinks, dance and food, with its ease in and ease out moments (so trip hop), then bed at ridiculous o’clock.
yes! we can all find a use for wood here and there – here is a range of textures, patterns -.png, .pat, .eps, .jpg – great for any project needing colour and texture, that natural feel but with a litt
Once again there are retro design styles running around – they come in a lot of different forms as well …
… and yes the design styles and the music below are not quite from complimentary sources or eras but, well! you get the drift …
The past reurns in so many different ways. It is good that it gets a rewrite, the present taking from what has been and giving it its own slant.
After the festival which you can see below, I will be djing and, hopefully, vjing at the after party. Then in a little while I will also be performing at my old stomping ground for Rite Trax – the Corporation! As always these events are a real rainbow of activity – art, poetry, live music, dj performance, vj performance – so much, and they attract such a range of people.

Art is …
sometimes a statement, an expression, a comment …
it can be grand and glorious or small, distressed, torn …
it can seem quite ordinary but because it has been placed in ‘a frame’ it has special meaning …
… sometimes the word itself is just a little too much because of all the baggage that can go with it, but then you find something, hear something and the ordinary, the odd moment suddenly has new and added meaning and depth …
a variety of odd backgrounds, environment textures and similar – a variety of formats – jpg, png,svg – something to add to any project, using all sorts of materials in a variety of palettes, extending

Take a look on facebook – we will return – there will also be a festival in Sheffield, Bole Hills a little later. I will be vjing as usual.
20th June was World Refugee Day so here are a few mixes of mine –
I had an interesting time recently, sat, as I have occasional want to do so, in a pub with an old mate. We enjoyed a few drinks and a delightful chat , myself and Jethro, up at the Rutland.
We were both involved some time ago in events such as Spannered at the Earl, the other offshoot parties (the Must Dash parties) and all sorts of other shenanigans. It is a shame that all too many of the places with which we were involved have now disappeared but other places sometimes run through and other events appear.
Sat out back having a fag we were surrounded by what you will find below. It is nice to be surprised by such things. Their inclusion in such venues makes a difference.
I am hoping that I will get the chance to see more of my old friend quite soon and perhaps he will get the chance to perform at Rite Trax or a similar event in the near future.
