A patchwork history 2 – futurhood av

futurhood av –
‘in the neighbourhood of the future,
that’s where we are …’

Futurhood av oddly enough arose out of a previous organization – futurhood. This was originally conceived as a community group comprising a series of people who had been involved in old club nights and parties – the Must Dash parties and, particularly, the club night Spannered. the latter had also sat beside such nights as Screwed and so gave birth to another project – the entertaining toolbox.

Spannered was generally held @ the Earl in Sheffield and was based around breaks, techno and various bits and pieces of electronica, Resident DJ’s included Daddy K, John Wainwright (who had been a mainstay of Headcharge), Jethro Bagust and Silverback (the final DJ name for Des Bate)

Spannered lived its life through the course of the height of breaks some years ago, framed by then current techno and other bits and pieces of the dance music trends of the time. Great favourites of mine in terms of breaks artists were people such as Phil Kieran, Vigi and Nectarios and the like.

Motion Graphics – Motion Graphics Inspiration.

soundtoys.net – home.

I have a deep and abiding love of both music and the visual. Hardly surprising then that I would be drawn to audio-visual art and motion graphics. While I am not the greatest, nor have massive resources, I do try to express what occurs to me, what I see, hear and feel. The projects are all dedicated to my friends and family. I have had all sorts of help along the way – particuarly from Matt of Halcyon Creations aka Ripproots and a pile of other names, my daughters Shakira, a talented photographer, take a look at her page on my Pinterest account – f4mmedia – and my daughter Monique.

I like to combine colour, audio of varying forms and genres, movement, shape, text. The latter text is all too often ignored by av artists. I would use spoken word a lot more but my deeply Midlands accent tends not to work so often, I also have a massively sibilant ‘s’ which gives riose to a whistling in my speech, sometimes I think I might just manage to cut through glass with it.

colours heard – a patchwork history

Colours heard began as an audio-visual art based event @ the Redhouse in Sheffield. Music driven, art driven, visually driven … Based around Des Bate of futurhood av, it tried to fuse all sorts of visual mentions with an equally diverse range of music.  It sat beside other events at the time, including ‘Fish for Missiles’, the name deriving from a dream had by a friend – involving Cambodian biplane pilots firing salmon, tuna and sharks at American pilots in jets – don’t ask!

Involved in these events were a whole range of bands as well as DJ’s and visual artists.

BRUTE FORCE PRESENTS MARK EG

TECHNO – ACID – BREAKS – BASS

@ Redhouse, 168 Solly Street, Sheffield, S1 4BB
———————————————–

It’s a bunch of our birthdays at roughly the same time so we thought we’d put on a banging night and have a bit of a party so we went and got this man to come down:

MARK EG (90 Min set)
Blackout Audio//Compound//Submissions//Planet Rhythm// Cluster//Hydraulix

If you don’t know who he is you have clearly been living under the sea, it’s hard to put in to words just how much of a legend this man is. He is one of the world’s most renowned and well respected dj’s and producers and has been unleashing his incredible dj sets all over the globe for over two decades with seemingly boundless amounts of energy. We’ve got him to come down to smash out an hour and a half of techno madness and we couldn’t be happier to be welcoming Mark to the Red House for what will be an incredible night. Not to be missed at any cost!!!

———————————————-

MUMBLIST
Room 303

The main man behind Sheffield’s leading underground music night Room 303 he has also demonstrated his considerable dj’ing skills at night’s such as Subvert and Tinnitus. He is guaranteed to provide a cross section of bass heavy techno, acid infected breaks and wrong mixes generally.

———————————————–

SUBSTANCE G
Euphonic//Fusion

Substance G is the man who brought you the long running Leeds techno nights Euphonic and Fusion has nearly 20 years of dj’ing experience behind him playing at nights across the country. Filthy dubstep, dirty techno and skull busting drum n bass will be the order of the day.

———————————————–

HERB STRIKE

Geordie mash up master Herb Strike is a man who has been honing his skills for many years up in the bleak Northern wastes. Now let loose upon the unsuspecting land of Yorkshire he’ll mix blood curdling beats and absurd basslines, expect disgusting things to happen.

FLAWBORED
Re:Wired

Flawbored has spent over 7 years forcing his eclectic tastes onto the eardrums of crowds at the best underground nights on offer in and around Leeds, including Sheffield’s own Room 303. He will be spinning 140 bpm wrongness including twisted breaks, wonky techno and gnarly dubstep. And, in honour of the birthday men expect the whole set to have a nasty acid aftertaste
