There are a few things coming up, here are just some …

There is nothing quite like a good independant club night. Rite Trax are just one of the local purveyors, of course, along with Peachy and crew. I will be providing visuals for each of these and spinning a few at the Grooveyard event.

retro
Once again there are retro design styles running around – they come in a lot of different forms as well …
… and yes the design styles and the music below are not quite from complimentary sources or eras but, well! you get the drift …
The past reurns in so many different ways. It is good that it gets a rewrite, the present taking from what has been and giving it its own slant.
Events – RiteTrax #009, Garage Night, Reform Radio, more

Coming really soon, hopefully I will be doing the visuals again. I am having an absolute ball with these guys. I have djed and vjed for them – at Golden Harvest (soon to be closing down becauseof council re-development in the area) and at the Harley – an old stomping ground of mine. I have also provided them with a little promo work and mini-mixes for the radio show – see below. Very soon a guest mix of mine should be up on their mixcloud channel. I may also put up the Harley mix on my channel. Also thanks to them I vjed @ Garage Night 2 also at Golden Harvest. There may also be a load of work arising as a spin-off – that will be announced a little later.
The Rite Trax gigs are quite a thing – live poetry, art, even live art, live music, dj performance, my visuals and a mix of people that is spectacular. I have spoken so many languages at these gigs – it is untrue. These events are so special – get down. Also check out their show on Reform Radio.

Nightlife and its joys
There is nothing like the night and all of the joys you can find there. I miss my clubbing days. I miss djing and vjing, creating for events, entertaining even a small crowd. I have managed to play at quite a few clubs in and around Sheffield, also enjoying the events as an attendee. I had great fun going out to such and beyond to festivals and free parties with my daughters – yes! strange I know, but still. Even though I am in my 60s now I still love this music. It may seem odd for someone such as myself to still have a love of 2 step garage, drum and bass, dubstep, future bass, drumstep, trap, glitch and more but there you have it.
Get up and skank – 22nd November Fez Club Sheffield
https://www.facebook.com/events/535723369831324/
Friday, 22 November 2013
22:00 until 06:00
That’s right after such a blinding night in September we are happy to announce that were coming back to the one and only FEZ for another cracking night and we have a killer lineup for you with some of the best local and national DJs and Producers around. so get down and fucking have it! X
On the Lineup:
*Audio Beatniks
This Sheffield based Production duo formed less than a year ago and never looked back. From fields to warehouses to Sheffield Center nightlife in a matter of months, these guys have shown nothing but ambition.
Now current residents of one of Sheffield’s biggest and best Bassline & Speed Garage driven nights (Bass Heaven), The Beatniks don’t plan on slowing down any time soon!
*DARKUS
“With over ten years in the game, playing the north and south of the UK, Darkus knows how to bring the noise, Dark by name Dark by nature: welcome to the Darkside.”
*ANN D – https://soundcloud.com/#ann-d-1
“Ann D started Dj-ing in the time honored way, playing a weekly 3 hour show on a pirate in the late 90’s, not because she woke up one morning wanting to be a DJ but because it was the only way to get the sort of show she wanted to listen to. After years of going to blue’s clubs, festivals and dancing her way through many music styles she had a vinyl collection that ranged from Prince Fari, Alpha & Omega, Beefheart, The Velvet Underground to The Orb, A Guy Called Gerald, the dirtiest English & German techno, breaks and DnB – that’s the kinda radio show she wanted to hear. Bizarrely and despite not having decks or being able to mix a cake, after about a year she was booked to play out, at which point she thought I’d better buy some technics and learn how to mix. Since then she has gone on to play all over the UK, Europe & Mexico playing with everyone from Rootsman, Richard Kirk, Aphex Twin, Tayo, The SUF Liberators & The Orb on their tour, she was resident at a night called Headcharge which often made the Mixmag top ten best nights in the UK before the council closed the venue down, she’s guested on numerous Radio shows both here & in Berlin, appeared on Channel 4, produced the soundtrack for a photographer’s book launch, featured in documentaries, written articles for various music mags and is soon to soundtrack a short film. She still continues to play a weekly show, on a legal station now – SCR Radio and thinks she’s lucky to be able to share her tunes.”
Dr Cryptic
Dr Cryptic has been DJing and Producing for around 10 years bringing a fresh style and unique sound to his music. Having played at some of the biggest nights across Sheffield and Leeds he has earned the respect and support from many in the industry.
Rich Pastrami
Rich Pastrami. Old skool like Happy Shopper. Part of North n South. Playing across Sheffield for over 10 years. Eclectic dance floor focussed sets. Hip hop-dancehall-breakbeat-acid-jungle-hardcore-whatever.
*WheresNorth
Phil Wrighton AKA WheresNorth has been honing his skills over the past few years at DJing, Producing and even Promoting, making him a connoisseur in the Yorkshire underground music scene. Playing at a range of venues from Free Partys to late night slots at places like The Beat Herder Festival. Hes Part of 48 Inch Records and has been producing some exciting material. Phils Night DuskTilDawn is bringing breaks back to sheffield in a huuge way but also showcasing a range well loved of genres.
We are dead excited to see what phil will bring to Sheffield Warehouse Rave having heard about him tearing up it all over the place. http://soundcloud.com/wheresnorth

Second step to drums by Futurhood Av on Mixcloud
Out of the warehouse and into … by Futurhood Av on Mixcloud
drumstep
1. drumstep
A sub genre of drum and bass where the beat structure is “half time” but the remaining elements still adhere to the usual tempo and melody pattern style – the techniques and feel of dubstep with the faster pace of drum ‘n’ bass.
2. Drumstep
Drumstep is the incestuous lovechild of Drum ‘n’ Bass and Dubstep; taking the half-time swagger and wobble from Dubstep and mixing it with the general tempo and cadence of an Amen Break.
A few early stand out producers within this subgenre are Dub Foundation and Heist. Additionally, many current Drum ‘n’ Bass and Dubstep producers have written and produced Drumstep tracks or remixes. One such example might be Rob Swire’s Drumstep VIP mix of “Witchcraft”, from his band Pendulum’s latest album, “Immersion”

New music video and a new mix – the mix contains a couple of tunes from me – silverback dj. This work is dedicated to my friends at the Redhouse – my favourite small venue in Sheffield. It is also our youngest’s birthday coming up – Tyrone. The mix has a fair amount of content from Jack Dixon and Volor Flex – two great artists. Also included are a series of mockups and designs for the whole of the aromatiq revisited project – chillstep, deep dubstep and beyond.

There is something about chillstep that combines so much –
- sunrise
- sunset
- quiet romance
- thoughtful chilling
- the dance floor and the lounge
- home after the party
- a walk in woods, fields, over hills, to water flowing
- the mid-week and the weekend
- the expectation of the party
- someone new and old friends
Chillstep – the gentler end of dubstep
Whenever I went to parties I always used to gravitate towards the chillout room. I would, of course, make my tour of what was going on, but there was always a fascination with the chill room. I have an abiding love of the gentler end of things – I do still love my big bouncy and darker, harder end of things, but still. Thus, I suppose it was inevitable that I would end up roaming around that reasonably recent end of music called chillstep. Unfortunately there is no proper wiki for it. You never know I may end up doing something myself. But still …
Phaeleh – I still really enjoy my 2 step and so, another inevitability – there are regular hints of 2 step within his stuff, an occasional flavour of intelligent dnb and more.
Other serious artists within the field include The Glitch Mob, Modestep, Submotion Orchestra, Blackmill, Synthetic Epiphany, ID3, Fracx, Ghosts of Paraguay and more …
Chillstep music – Listen free at Last.fm.
Chillstep came about as dubstep was modified in its move forwards by those bringing other sensibilities. People such as Phaeleh return to ideas of 2 step beats. Dubstep, itself, was part of a move on from the older 2 step garage musical genre. In some cases full on chill and ambient flavours are present. In other cases there is very much of a dub feel and so you see such things as psydub and cyberdub included. There is a lot of vocal content, at time with almost an indie, nusoul and pop vibe running through.
Ghosts of Paraguay – Official Site.
Other favourites of mine are Submotion Orchestra from Leeds, Ghosts of Paraguay, Synthetic Epiphany, Liquid Stranger and more. The hints of intelligent dnb, triphop, electrodub, full on chill, orchestral notes, dub itself, – these are all qualities that draw me in.
